Michelle’s husband died in the line of duty 24 years ago. She attempted to continue her education in 2003 and soon learned that it was best to pause that pursuit so she could be home with her (3) young children as much as possible. She is currently pursuing her associate degree in music education.
Michelle serves in her local church teaching the youth and adult groups on the second and fourth Sundays of the month. She finds it has been good for her being involved in her community where she’s been taking elderly women out into the community on the second Tuesday of each month to interact with others through dinner, bingo, and visiting others. In her spare time, Michelle assists with local NFFF golf tournaments to help raise funds to support others who have lost loved ones.
Murray City Fire Chief (Ret.) Gil Rodriguez states, “I have known Michelle for over 16 years. She is always kind, gracious, and generous. Her involvement in our golf tournament has always been greatly appreciated as she is always willing to assist and do whatever was needed. Michelle is dedicated to the Foundation and its mission. I highly endorse her as an excellent recipient of this scholarship as I know that her dedication and characteristics will carry over to her educational pursuits.”
