National Fallen Firefighters Foundation

Roll of Honor

Firefighter
Age: 47
Year of Death: 1973

Richard “Lee” Williams

Lee Williams, a veteran of the U.S. Navy whose son became a career firefighter, was the principal of the Kingman High School and a volunteer member of the Fire Department. Eleven acclaimed firefighters, two members and nine volunteers of the Kingman Fire Department died as a result of a disastrous fire and explosion that ripped apart a railroad tanker car filled with propane gas as it was being off-loaded.

This firefighter line of duty fatality occurred before the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial was built in Emmitsburg, Maryland. While this firefighter has not been officially honored at the Memorial site, there are plans to do so when resources are available.
