Firefighter Richard Ellsworth McCormick, age 33, of the Charleston Fire Department, died on March 4, 1949, when the floor collapsed during a fire at the Woolworth’s Department Store.
Richard attended West Virginia State College at Institute and Union University in Richmond, Virginia.
He is survived by his wife Cecile; his daughter Linda Louise; his son Richard Jr.; his mother and stepfather Mr. and Mrs. John Staples.
