Mike was a true gift to everyone in his life and the definition of faith and love. Known as “Mother” at Station 8 for being the firehouse chef and his fabulous seven-pound chocolate cake, he always made sure to take care of his brothers and his family. He started with Montgomery County Fire and Rescue in 1977 and retired in 2001 with 24 years serving the community and doing what he loved.
Outside of the firehouse, you could find Mike continuously working to perfect his golf game, working at the country club, spending time with his beautiful wife and love of his life, Sherry, and daughter, Kristin, attending church, and cooking for everyone he loved. Known for his sense of humor and witty jokes, Mike brought a smile to everyone he met. He could light up a room, always offered support with a bear hug, and had a wise word and great advice as a man of faith.
His deep faith and connection with God gave him the ability to fight more than just a fire for four years. His resolve to battle line-of-duty cancer was all heart, and our family motto became “Whatever it takes.” Our world has not been quite as bright in his absence, but his legacy lives on through his wife, daughter, and brothers at Local 1664.
