Age: 74
Year of Death: 1974

LeLand Foster

Fire Policeman Foster, age 74, was directing traffic at the intersection of South Main Street and Scammel Street while the City of Cortland was operating at a house fire on Scammel Street. Fire Policeman Foster collapsed at the intersection going into cardiac arrest. Fire Policeman Foster was not able to be resuscitated and succumbed.

This firefighter line of duty fatality occurred before the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial was built in Emmitsburg, Maryland. While this firefighter has not been officially honored at the Memorial site, there are plans to do so when resources are available.
