Karl Sederholt died from illness related to his response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. He served with the BFI Special Operations Command. He was appointed in 1977 and retired in 2003, serving New York City with honor for over 20 years
He served in the U.S. Navy prior to joining the FDNY.
After retiring from the FDNY, he became one of the commissioners of the Glen Cove Fire Department.
He was a member of the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, two daughters, and four grandchildren.
