Ladderman John Acomb, age 35, along with 6 other Baltimore City firefighters, were killed during the September 2, 1888 Sharp Street warehouse fire. Ladderman Acomb had served the department for 2 years. This was one of the largest fires and greatest tragedies for the Baltimore City Fire Department.
