Jason C. Tucker

Firefighter/EMT Jason C. Tucker, 53, of Pasco County Fire Rescue in Florida, passed away on April 23, 2023, after a 22-month battle with glioblastoma brain cancer.

Jason was introduced to the fire service through his grandfather, Pierce Roden, who worked in the forestry service and started several volunteer fire stations in Cullman County, Alabama, where Jason was raised. As a young child, Jason responded to calls with his grandfather.

Jason is remembered by his fellow coworkers as a “firefighter’s firefighter.” He was the epitome of brotherhood, a damn good cook, compassionate, funny, and genuine. He believed in treating everyone as though they were family, giving your all to this profession and each other, and being the best you can be for your brothers, sisters, and community. He loved this job with a passion. He enjoyed being on the water and the little things in life. He loved his family even more.

Jason dedicated himself to his career for 19+ years. He had two mantras—”Leave things better than the way you found them.” and “Own your attitude.” When Pasco County moved forward in cancer prevention, Jason got the specialty certificates needed to work on their decontamination truck that rolled out in April 2020. Later, he moved to their special operations truck.

In July 2021, after his cancer diagnosis, surgery, and treatment, he was placed on light duty. That didn’t slow him down either. He made improvements around the training center and spoke to the new hire classes about the importance of decontamination and clean gear.

When visiting Pasco County Fire Rescue, you may see several honors and tributes to Jason. At the training center, they have dedicated the new burn tower in his name—Tucker Tower. In the lobby, they have a cabinet built by a fellow firefighter, Vick Brown, that holds his gear on display.

Jason had a deep love for his family and loved adventures. He would often take them camping or boating. He taught the kids to ride jet skis, ATVs, and motorcycles, and how to shoot firearms and play Rummy. This was important when visiting their grandparents, Carolyn and David McKoy.
Jason was a devoted and loving son, father, husband, and friend who is truly missed by those who knew him.

Jason is survived by his wife, Wendy; his son, Austin; his mother and stepfather, Carolyn and David McKoy; and his father and stepmother, Jerry and Theresa Tucker. He joins his daughter, Kendall, and his grandparents in watching over everyone from above.
