Year of Death: 1912

Herman Fumbaugh

On January 7, 1912, a 5-alarm shoe store fire in Baltimore had been fought for over 2 days in bitterly frigid conditions. Hostler Herman Fumbaugh, from Engine 3, contracted pneumonia and passed away on February 7, 1912. He had faithfully served for over 24 years.

This firefighter line of duty fatality occurred before the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial was built in Emmitsburg, Maryland. While this firefighter has not been officially honored at the Memorial site, there are plans to do so when resources are available.
