Gerald T. Atwood‚ 38‚ firefighter‚ FDNY‚ Ladder 21. An eight-year FDNY veteran‚ Atwood had previously run a renovation business with his brother. The Brooklyn native attended Kingsborough Community College for two years. He enjoyed helping neighbors with home improvement projects and fishing. Atwood’s third child‚ Robert‚ was born this year (2002).

  1. I am a volunteer fire fighter in shirland illinois. Every year for 4 years now I go to the Lucas oil stadium in indiana for the 911 memorial stair climb. I climb for the 343. I carry a picture of Gerald t. Atwood on my helmet . It is a True honor for me .

  2. I climbed the Red Rocks memorial today and had the honor of wearing Gerald Atwood’s picture/badge the 9 loops up in honor and recognition of the 343. I have two children. I can’t imagine the personal loss to his wife and family.

  8. There is nothing else in my 59 years old life,which made me more sad than the sacrfices of the 343 fire fighters and other People who lost their lifes on 9/11.

  11. I will never forget the conversation sitting on the porch on the evening of 9/10/01, telling my mom that Barbara was expecting a third child. You were beaming with joy and happiness. Even at 10 years old, I knew you were a great man and a hero. We will never forget you.

  12. Today on the 20th anniversary I had the honor to represent Firefighter Gerald T. Atwood, read his name and ring the bell during the the Grand Rapids 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb. As I walked, I prayed for family friends and all who knew her m Friday m his service. #neverforget

  15. I participated in my first memorial stair climb at Cahokia Mounds in IL today 9/11/22, I completed 11 laps of the 154 stairs at Monks Mound which is equivalent to 62 floors of the North Tower and 78 floors of the South Tower in Firefighter Atwood’s honor. Always remember the 343.
