5/29/1997 – 5/29/2015 is too long to be without your big brother. I miss and love you forever, Frank “Lane” Gilbert, Jr. You are a hero to me and so many others! You have missed so, so much over the years, but I am trying to see your family’s lives and accomplishments through your eyes. May all of your good works and great faith on earth be multiplied many times over as we continue on without you. Save a place for us, my Lane! <3 <3 <3
– NFFFTo my most prescious friend thank you for the tears that saved me.
– Richard GrantRichard Grant East Chicago firefighter EMT.
Frank D.Gilbert Jr. Is my son, a man in whom I am well pleased! He was chaplain for the fire dept and absolutely loved his job.
– Wanda GilbertHe was in an ambulance accident on Oct.26, 1996 and was paralyzed from his neck down. He was beloved by so many, when he died seven months and three days later, he was honored to have this beautiful park named after him. I am blessed each time I go online and see how beautifully the Garden club and the Park Dept. have continued to keep the park so beautiful.
May God bless every member of the department, most of them never knew him. But this beautiful park is a way to keep his memory alive. His dad is with him now and in the right time I will join them.
Thank you Portage for honoring Lane (our family love name for Frank) and I pray his name is the ONLY name on the memorial wall.
God bless every member of fire department!
Frank, you were one of my dearest friends and most respected colleagues. You were one of the most dedicated, joy filled people I’ve ever known, and I so wish we’d been friends far longer. I look forward to joining you and sharing stories when the time is right; until then, please look out for me from above!
