Roll of Honor

Age: 47
Year of Death: 2001

Cynthia J. Verburg

Cindy was the wife of Doug Verburg for 29_ years. Mother of two sons Matt age 26 and Brian age 22. Grandmother of Conner age 1.

Most of Cindy’s life was spent self-employed in retail bicycle sales and services. She was very active in the community.

At the time of her death‚ she had been on the Clayton Fire Department for 17 years‚ and she was an active trustee on the Dayton Police Athletic League Board. On this Board‚ she worked with at-risk children and was driving force in building a BMX track. This track was dedicated to Cindy as the Cindy Verburg BMX track two months after her death.

Cindy was also a big advocate of bicycle helmet safety. She was active in fitting helmets in various helmet give-a-ways and bicycle rodeos done with several police departments. She also trained fire and police personnel throughout the area on helmet fittings and safety. Previously Cindy had sat on the Board of Injury Prevention at the Dayton Foundation.

In Cindy’s 47 years‚ she reached out and touched a lot of people. She lived life to the fullest and that nothing short of doing the best you could do was acceptable.

Cindy is truly missed by all the people she touched in her life. But there is no question that this world was left a better place because of how she lived her life in the time she had here.

She is now at eternal peace with God.

– Doug Verburg
