Curtis Springfield along with (4) other firefighters and a supervisor were dispatched to a forest fire near Payson on June 25‚ 1990 at the request of the U.S. Forest Service. The following day he along with the other (4) firefighters and their supervisor encountered the fire’s most destructive path. They were surrounded in the fire and could not find adequate protection. All perished.
