Bret Richmond Tarver‚ 41‚ career firefighter‚ Phoenix Fire Department‚ died March 14‚ 2001‚ when he was trapped during a fire at a shopping center.

He began his fire service career with the Sun City Fire Department. In 1999‚ he received a Quality Customer Service Award when he and his crew framed and covered a hole in a home that had been hit by a car.

Tarver built his own home and‚ at the time of his death‚ was building a corral for the horse he had just bought for his three daughters. Described as a gentle giant who was always smiling‚ he was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hiking‚ camping‚ and hunting.

Most of all‚ he was a devoted family man who loved his wife and daughters.
