Arthur had an irrepressible zest for life‚ never content to idle away his time. He enjoyed competitive swimming‚ cooking‚ blacksmithing‚ traveling‚ brewing ‘Arties Ale‚’ and most of all fabricating parts for heavy duty machines in his complete machine shop. He took many trips to every corner of our nation. In the year 2000 he rode his Harley-Davidson motorcycle 10‚000 miles to Alaska. He was in his 9th year with the FDNY and recently completed chauffer training to drive Ladder 15.
Arthur was on vacation when he responded to the World Trade Center on 9/11/01. Arthur is survived by his parents Audriene & Bertrand F. (Retired FDNY); sisters Patricia‚ Kathleen and Claire; and brother Bertrand A.
I had the honor to wear a badge with Mr. Barry’s name and picture on a memorial stair climb yesterday. I cannot imagine the grief his family has gone through. I hope the fact that his name and his bio was read and revered by a stranger as far away as Misawa Japan will let them know that his heroism lives on. Thank you for your bravery and sacrifice.
– Jennifer LundinR I P Brother. I will be representing you as well as all of the victims lost that tragic day this Saturday at the Dallas 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb… #neverforget
– J. EstesI also wore Arthur’s badge in the Red Rocks Memorial stair climb in Colorado. I read his biography and watched the firemen in full gear climbing around me, thinking of what that day was like for him. The entire event was a tribute to bravery and sacrifice; we honor your family’s loss and Arthur’s commitment to saving the victims on 9/11.
I shared Arthur’s story with my dad later in the day; he was once a volunteer fire fighter on Long Island. I told Dad that Arthur was on vacation when he responded to the World Trade Center and dad responded, “of course he did” and then we had another moment of silence and tribute. I hope it helps to know that we appreciate and honor him from Colorado. Peace to you all.
