Hector L. Tirado‚ Jr.‚ 30‚ firefighter‚ FDNY‚ Engine 23. A former EMT and Army veteran‚ Tirado was drawn to the FDNY by the opportunity to help people. He was used to challenges and the responsibility of caring for others. After his parents died when he was a teenager‚ Tirado cared for and eventually became legal guardian to his three younger siblings. Later‚ he worked hard raising his own children. Good-looking as well as hardworking‚ Tirado was a part-time model.

To those of you who knew Hector Tirado Jr. I want you to know his memory and life is honored and respected. As I write this, it is October 2, 2018, and I just returned from an auction held in Groveport, Ohio. At that auction I purchased the following items that once belonged to Hector and his family. His uniform (fire fighter coat and pants), his helmet, a memorial flag, a memorial teddy bear and a quilt presented to his family made by an auxiliary from Elkhart, Indiana. I did not want the memory of this man to be disrespected, so I went to the auction with the sole purpose of securing these items. All of the items will have a great home and his memory will never fade, but, will be remembered and respected each day. May God bless all of you who knew him. All the best.

On 10-21-2019 I visited the 9/11 memorial and my visit to New York had different reasons and one was find about Hector. I did find his name on the south side. Tears came down my eyes as a retired veteran and proud member of the Armed forces I salute you brother. RIP
