Vinny died a hero
on his fortieth birthday
climbing 110 flights
to save lives.
His body perished,
remains never found.
Way too soon,
the wake
to celebrate his life.
Together, we
step onto the bus,
taking us to his hometown pub.
He is alive on this bus;
Lieutenant Fun, they call him.
We together—
boisterous,
laughing with Vinny,
as his brothers take turns
imitating his improv, his Elvis,
his pranks.
Our is the laughter
of aching souls.
His bereaved family
Awaits.
This is how I know Vinny—
– Leslie Lampe Longon this bus
with his brothers,
as the bagpipes
welcome him home.
Prayers for him and all.
– Bill StoltzRemembering you and your family on this day….
– Tom GiammonaA distant cousin from the other side of the country…
Miss him. He was the best. Funny guy.
– Stephen DennehyI participated in the memorial climb today at Lambeau Field in honor of Lt. Giammona, a true Hero. A bell was rang singly for him followed by his name shouted more than once today as 3,000 participants shared 343 names repeatedly. WE WILL NEVER FORGET!!! By putting faces and names with the 343 firefighters, WE KEEP THEIR MEMORY ALIVE. Lt Giamonna’s picture will be on the wall at a VFD in Alabama with “hero” on it, as he is a hero.
– MelonyI walked a 5K today for the Stephen Siller foundation. I wore the LADDER 5 FDNY badge in honor of Vincent Giammona. I wore it proudly. His sacrifice that day will never be forgotten.
