Kimberly A. Smith

Kimberly A. Smith‚ 30‚ a six-year career firefighter with the Houston Fire Department‚ died on February 14‚ 2000‚ from smoke inhalation and burns after being caught in a roof collapse at an arson fire. She had gone in to rescue a fellow firefighter. Smith placed first in the 1998 Western Regional Firefighter Combat Challenge. She was the first female in department history to die in the line of duty.

  6. I had the Honor of meeting Kim in Las Vegas and Florida at the Challenge. She was always a little faster! My heart broke the day I saw she had died fighting fire. Today Is as vivid as the day we stood behind the tower chatting about Martha. You left us way to soon but you’ll never be forgotten!
