Stanley C. Adams

I met my husband, Stan Adams, in 1978. I had just graduated nursing school in 1977 and started attending Broadmoor Baptist church singles Sunday school class. There I met I man of my dreams! Stan Adams! He was the most handsome man I had ever met. We went on a singles trip to Gatlinburg to go snow skiing. He was on the bus that we rode on all night to get to our destination! He was rather a quiet guy that spoke few words, but I had an attraction to him from the start! We started talking some and got to know each other a little during the trip! I found out he was a fireman at the Jackson fire department. I thought that was awesome. My roommate at the time had started dating a mutual friend in the singles Sunday school class and her boyfriend got us together on a double date! After that, we started dating and soon knew we were in love! After six months dating , we got married. And the next few years we added 3 wonderful kids to our family! Those were the days!  We had a great schedule with our work situation. I worked as a nurse when he was off. He made the best Mr. Mom! He was a great dad, husband, cook and housekeeper when I had to work! And I had the children on the days he worked. We had a very busy life but full of fun! He finally had 20 years in at the fire station and was looking to retire and maybe work as a fireman at our local fire department! My kids were 12,14, and 16 when one day I got the call about a shooting at central fire station in Jackson! After not knowing what had happened the fire chief called me and told me to come down to the station but wouldn’t give details. I went as fast as I could down the interstate alone in my car with my mind racing! I knew what he was going to say when I got there. A neighbor was with the kids and lots of friends and relatives were at my house when I arrived home with the devastating news. A coworker had decided to go on a shooting spree and shoot 6 fireman and his wife that day. My husband was one of them! He was only 45. Too young to die like that! He was a fine Christian husband and dad to us and we still miss him after 27 years on April 24. My children are all grown now and I have 2 grandchildren and one on the way life still goes on, but that day has left a hole in my family’s heart forever. We love you, Stan!!! You’re in heaven now, and I get comfort knowing that’s he’s with our Lord! I will get to see him one day! This is my husband Stanley C. Adams! Thank you, Dinah Adams, Christin Johnston, Ryan Adams, and Jamie Clark.
