The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) is proud to welcome Dr. Daniel (Danny) Kistner as our new Director of Fire Programs!
With over 40 years of experience in the fire service, Dr. Kistner is a proven leader and innovator, known for his dedication to firefighter safety, adaptive leadership, and professional excellence. Throughout his career, he has championed initiatives that have significantly impacted firefighter health and wellness, including:
- Establishing an advisory committee for Texas fire service regulators on firefighter health and wellness
- Advocating for a statewide requirement for all Texas firefighters to complete the NFFF’s Courage to Be Safe® program
- Leading the implementation of groundbreaking initiatives for the NFFF Fellowship program
Dr. Kistner is also a respected author and speaker, having presented at major fire service conferences such as Fire-Rescue International, CPSE Excellence Conference, Fire-Rescue Med, and the Texas Fire Chief’s Association LODD Conference.
His academic achievements further highlight his commitment to the fire service. Dr. Kistner holds a Doctor of Liberal Studies from Southern Methodist University, with postgraduate studies at Oklahoma State University, Western Oregon University, and Harvard’s Kennedy School. He is a Fellow with the Institute of Fire Engineers, a graduate of the Executive Fire Officer program, and a dedicated advocate for firefighter safety.
A longtime supporter of the NFFF, Dr. Kistner played a pivotal role in the Everyone Goes Home® program as one of its original Life Safety Advocates and the first Regional Advocate for Region VI.
His leadership and expertise will be invaluable as he steps into this new role, guiding our fire programs with vision and passion.
