Jordan Baker

Jordan’s major is in Molecular & Cellular Biology and her minor is in Spanish and Public Health. Her mother Laura survived breast cancer while Jordan was in the 5th grade while her step-mother, Captain Jacki deHaro, passed away from Stage 4 occupational cancer.

She currently is working with Dr. Jeff Burgess and his team on the Firefighter Cancer Cohort Study (FFCCS), Jordan’s career goal is to become a researcher for cancer and to serve as a genetic counselor. Jordan volunteers with the Blue Chip Leadership Club who partners with Habitat for Humanity to build homes and during the upcoming summer, she will travel to Costa Rica with VIDA to provide medical care to underprivileged citizens.

Chief Cheryl Horvath states, “Jordan is a mature, humble 19-year-old focused on her education and future. She is levelheaded with a good moral compass, works hard and ranks in the top 1% of her class. I am confident she will be a success story for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.” interest in the medical field began at a young age with both mothers serving their communities as firefighters. Through these experiences, Jordan plans to become an oncologist who can make a valuable impact on her patient’s lives by giving them more time with their families while preserving their quality of life. She will attend the University of Arizona Honors College to study pre-medicine as her undergraduate degree. After she graduates, she will attend medical school to prepare for her future career. Her personal goals are to have a healthy work/life balance while maintaining a meaningful job that she enjoys. Chief Cheryl Horvath states, “Jordan is a mature, humble 18-year-old focused on her education and future. She is levelheaded with a good moral compass, has worked hard and ranks in the top 1% of her class. I am confident she will be a success story and will be grateful for the assistance of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.”
