Firefighters dedicate their lives to safeguarding our communities, often putting themselves in harm’s way. But not all dangers they face are immediate. Cancer has become the leading cause of firefighter line-of-duty deaths, making it a critical issue for departments and families nationwide. That’s why January is recognized as Firefighter Cancer Awareness Month—a time to spotlight the risks, promote prevention, and encourage early detection.

Learn more about the month’s significance and available resources at the Firefighter Cancer Awareness Month website.

The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) is committed to reducing preventable firefighter deaths and illnesses. Through our affiliate program, the First Responder Center for Excellence (FRCE) we are committed to promoting quality educational awareness and research to reduce physical, emotional, and psychological health and wellness issues for first responders.

The 2025 Firehouse Cancer Awareness & Prevention Supplement is here! This essential resource was developed through a collaboration between Firehouse and the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation’s First Responder Center for Excellence.

Firefighter Cancer Support Network Honor Firefighters on the Walk of Honor®

Through our partnership with the Firefighter Cancer Support Network (FCSN), the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation continues to honor those affected by cancer with commemorative bricks on the Walk of Honor®. These bricks are not just physical markers—they represent the courage, strength, and sacrifices made by firefighters and their families in the face of cancer. Through this ongoing collaboration, we are committed to raising awareness, providing support, and honoring the heroes whose lives have been touched by cancer in the fire service.

This year, we renew our dedication to this cause, ensuring that every brick laid serves as a reminder of the resilience of the firefighting community. Together, NFFF and FCSN are offering resources, education, and a lasting tribute to those impacted by cancer.
