The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and the St. Louis Fire Department are co-hosting the 2024 Firefighter Life Safety Summit on August 27-29, 2024 in St. Louis, Missouri.

2024 marks the 20th anniversary of the groundbreaking fire service gathering that launched the 16 Firefighter Life Safety Initiatives. Over the past two decades, these initiatives have served as the catalyst for a wide range of safety improvements in the fire service and fostered efforts to prevent and reduce firefighter line-of-duty deaths and injuries. Much has been accomplished, yet much remains to be done.

Registration is open to representatives from across the fire service (at all levels) and there is no fee to register. Event organizers are especially eager to welcome up-and-coming career and volunteer firefighters or fire officers with much of their work life ahead of them. This will ensure that voices at all levels are heard—and will help shape the future of the fire service.

The Firefighter Life Safety Summit will also focus on synergies and alignment between the 16 Firefighter Life Safety Initiatives, the U.S. Fire Administrator’s “Critical Issues Facing the Fire Service” as outlined in the 2023 Summit on Fire Prevention and Control Report; the upcoming USFA Summit 2024; and the unified Fire Service One Voice initiative.

This interactive Summit will generate new ideas to help the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation set the course for the next five years to reduce line-of-duty deaths and injuries.

Attendees will be placed into work groups examining the continued impact of the 16 Firefighter Life Safety Initiatives as written; considering options to streamline them in recognition of what has been accomplished over the past 20 years; and exploring how to be responsive to today’s firefighters and the needs of the fire service for generations to come.
