To all of you who have reached out to our family durring this time- THANK YOU!
I had no "real" idea how many of you my father had touched and helped in some way. As I begin to try and understand this, I am slowly realizing what a blessing it is for me to know that all of you have dad with you in your own ways. I now understand why dad never moved out to CO to be with us; he had a job to do. It is difficult to put into words how it makes a son feel to know how your father helped and touched so many people, I am blessed, humbled and thankful that he has given so many of you comfort. I can't begin to tell you how much I miss dad, but knowing all of you are with me is about the only thing keeping me afloat- THANK YOU and may god bless all of you.

I did not know Hal but I hope he RIP and a belated thank you for all his efforts for us widdows/survivors.

It was my honor to work with Hal Bruno at ABC News where he was political director. Among Hal's many talents, he could report on political firestorms, and engage in the work of the fire workers community with equal aplomb. He was one of God's good souls.

I am honored and blessed to call Hal Bruno my friend!

One of my fondest, precious memories of Hal, was when he invited me and my family for a night of Bluegrass at his home! What a fun night that was! I will never forget it!

I appreciate his friendship and support so much and will miss him greatly!

I am so thankful I got to see him and Meg in October at the Fallen Firefighters Memorial.

My thoughts and prayers are with Meg and your family! Hal touched so many people and will be greatly missed!

We mourn the passing of a career journalist, national political commentator, volunteer firefighter and – most importantly – a true American hero.

Hal Bruno led a big life. He was an energetic advocate for the fire service on Capitol Hill, a passionate reporter and writer on fire safety and other critical fire issues, and a friend to countless families of fallen firefighters in their saddest moments. I first met Hal in the early days of Motorola’s partnership with NFFF. His charisma was unmistakable, and his relentless dedication to the fire service was contagious. He was driven by a clear vision – that after every fire call, “everyone goes home.” I count myself as fortunate to have known him.

Our world is a better place because of Hal, and his legacy lives on throughout the firefighting community he loved so much. Thank you Hal – for everything.
